ONE MOVE.

Psalm 119:105 “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”

Which one do you have today?

I still call my parents when I’m overwhelmed.  Admittedly, it takes a lot more now a days to get me to the point of being overwhelmed, but when I am, you can bet I’m breaking out that American prefix number and settling in for a long talk with Lutricia and Bob Menges.  They are pastors, marriage counselors, die hard DIYers, and parents extraordinaire.  So, conceivably, they have every answer I’ll ever need.  And in their words of truth and correction, I find space to breathe in the midst of my pain (or terrible choice in paint).

I recently, had to make a very hard decision concerning something close to my heart – my church.  In one of those conversations of desperation with my dad, he said to me, “Heather Lynn, sometimes God is just a lamp to our feet.  All we have is the next step.  But He will always give us that.”

Right now I could really use the “light unto my path” part of this promise in Psalms, as I’m sure many of you feel today too.  But our Father knows us well.  And, simply put, He can’t always show us that far down the road.  Maybe it’s because we need to really understand the significance of this one moment.  Maybe the path ahead would scare the living life out of us.  Perhaps, if we saw too far, we’d never leave where we are now.  Ultimately, it doesn’t matter why.  We use what we have when we have it.

Do you have a just a lamp today?  Because I’ve been holding onto that lamp for dear life lately.  But a light, however small, is all that’s needed for:

ONE. PURPOSEFUL. STEP.

Thank you, I already got the answer to that decision and I know it was the right one. But you can pray the Lord continues to lead me the way I should go – that process will take a little longer!

I love the idea of a lamp for one step. Sometimes, in those really dark times, that little lamp brings a lot of comfort. Thanks for reminding us to turn it on!
